As well as the exorbitant cost of international shipping, add VAT, then import duty, don't forget the deferment fee, oh, and security tax. And don't believe international sellers that tell you "Not to worry, you won't have to pay any of that". Please don't accept that someone outside the UK might have a mystical way of avoiding UK taxes.

That is of course, as long as your beloved new item actually reaches these shores in the first place. (Most reputable companies abroad will refuse to ship to the United Kingdom). The sad fact of the matter is that when you deal with an international company often you don't know who you're dealing with, or even where they are. Companies are rife, particularly in the Far East, who produce inferior counterfeit products and market and supply them as the real thing. Trading under a Dot Com address, it's impossible to gauge whether their claimed location is genuine or not.
